Dear Anglers,

The EL Cajon Ford Day Series held their Final team tournament of the regular season at El Capitan on Saturday September 7, 2013. We had a field of 36 teams that came to fish the final event, as this was the last chance qualifier for many for the Tournament of Champions. We had signups at 5:00am with coffee and donuts. The weather was very hot and sunny all day that made for some good fishing conditions for the teams that fished.

Once again, we had another excellent tournament with some giant stringers of bass throughout the field. This tournament produced six limits of bass that weighed over 20lbs. We had 166 bass weighed for a total weight of 500.37lbs with an average weight per team of 13.52lbs. We have to say, El Capitan is fishing lights out right now and the fish are big and beautiful. The weigh-ins went very smoothly and we were able to get all the anglers off the water, fed, paid and head home with 1-hour after the last team weighing in. The BBQ was very delicious with catered food from Angels Taco for all the anglers to enjoy after the weigh-ins.

The winners of the final tournament went to Todd Holverson and Jason Sleight with 24.98LBS with second big bass of the tournament of 7.48lb. Holverson and Sleight took home $2,500.00 for their 1st place finish and a ABU Garcia Rod & Reel valued at $300.00 for second big bass. Todd told the large audience at the awards ceremony that his partner (Jason) come thru with a banner day of fishing as he caught two seven pounders and a four-pounder after moving from their prime spot in the morning where they had a limit of bass by 7:00 am.

This tournament win was a great accomplishment since they had to out fish some of the best teams in the regions. The only way that Holverson & Sleight could over come a seven point deficit for the Anglers of the Year honors was to out fish two of the best teams in the region Tom Leedom /Matt Menzel and Adam Hinkle/ Jesse Hinkley who were seven points ahead and leading the circuit.

They needed the two hottest teams to have a mediocre day of fishing and finish eight places a head of both teams. Tom & Matt finished in 8th places with Adam & Jesse finishing in 9th places. Todd & Jason did what they need to do in order to claim the First Anglers of the Year honors for the EL Cajon Ford Day Series. You could not have script this if you tried.

This was by far the best comeback by any team in any San Diego Team Tournament events in the last twenty years of tournament fishing to beat two talented teams in a come back victory. I personally would like to congratulate Todd and my son Jason for their win today, they are true champion in every way and deserve the Anglers of the Year honors and are great representative for this circuit

Second Place went to Randy Barber and Ken Kruck with 22.59LBs with a kicker bass that weighted 6.60lb. Barber & Kruck took home $1,100.00 for 2nd place plus a Quantum Rod for 3rd Big Bass valued at $150.00. Barber & Kruck have qualified for the TOC by placing 17th in the YTD Standings and we will see this team in October for the fish-off. Job good guys and thanks for fishing the series we appreciate the support.

Third place went to Jason Clar and Travis Harrison with a five bass limit that weighted 22.41LBS with the Big Bass of the Tournament that weighed of 8.55LBS. Clar & Harrision took home $550.00 for the their 3rd place finish and $500.00 for the Big Bass of the Tournament for a total payday of $1,150.00. Clar & Harrison have qualified for the TOC by placing sixth in the YTD Standings and we will see this team in October for the fish-off. Job good guys and thanks for fishing the series we appreciate the support.
